Masters in Research in Computer Science
Module Outlines
The MRes in an advanced postgraduate programme offering a supervised research project, a module on research methods in Computer Science and Information Systems, as well as 3 other taught modules focusing on the following areas:
- Information Management
- Information Systems Development
- Advanced Computing Techniques
In addition to a module on Research Methods in Computer Science and Information Systems (RM), students select 3 other specialist modules relevant to their research interests from the following - described in detail in the Programme Booklet.
- Advances in Data Management (ADM)
- Component-Based Software Development (CBSD)
- Computational Intelligence and Visualisation (CIV)
- Data Warehousing and Data Mining (DWDM)
- Image-Based Information Processing (IBIP)
- Information Retrieval and Organisation (IR)
- Intelligent Technologies (IT)
- Internet and Web Technologies (IWT)
- Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KRR)
- Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing (MUC)
- Search Engines and Web Navigation (SEWN)
- Semantic Web (SW)
Note that not all of the above modules may be offered. Note also that, in any one year, some modules are offered either only during the day or only in the evening - see the timetable in the Programme Booklet.
Full-time students undertake a one-year supervised research project, together with the research methods module and 3 specialist modules. Part-time students undertake the research project, research methods module and 3 specialist modules over two years. Students should select modules appropriate to their chosen research area: such selections are subject to approval by the Programme Director.
