Experimental Data Science Research Group

The EDS group employ real-world data and observations captured from full-scale information systems to ground testable theory and conduct experimentation. Of special interest are datasets at full volume and at high velocity and variety. Particular areas of investigation include:

Web, social, human dynamics

Applied machine learning for Big Data

Visual and geometric computing

Management, integration and mining of life sciences data

Mobile computing and the Internet of Things

Applications in the digital economy, healthcare technologies and technology-enhanced learning

The group maintains extensive collaborations with industry and the other research groups in the U.K. and abroad, undertaking projects of fundamental and applied nature.

The group is intimately involved in the work of the Birkbeck Institute for Data Analytics.
