Birkbeck has helped in other ways but it would take pages and pages to write them all down
George Papamarkos has always had a great interest in computers and information technology. In 2002 he decided to study for a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science at Birkbeck's School of Computer Science and Information Systems. His supervisor was Professor Alexandra Poulovassilis. He chose Birkbeck because of the prestigious academic staff with whom he would be studying and working. He obtained his PhD in 2007 and he says that it has enabled him to improve his career prospects and to gain the respect of his peers. His current job, as a Software Engineer in the Internet Banking sector of the IT department of the Piraeus Bank in Greece, involves "the design and the implementation of the bank infrastructure that is responsible for the integration of the various bank services". He also said that Birkbeck has helped in other ways but it would take pages and pages to write them all down!
