Three functional database languages were developed at Birkbeck during the 1980s - 2000s:
FDL,
PFL,
and IQL, the query language used in the
AutoMed
heterogeneous data integration toolkit.
These systems were used by a range of research collaborators from academia and industry,
in areas such as
life sciences data management and integration,
road traffic data analysis,
data exchange between autonomous vehicles,
and crime investigation.
