Canonical extensions and the intermediate structure

A method of construction for the canonical extension of both lattices and posets 
requires the construction of the so-called intermediate structure. In fact, 
in a large number of examples, the intermediate structure is the canonical extension. 
We examine conditions for this to occur, as well as examples where the intermediate 
structure is distinct from the canonical extension.
